Let Your Life Shine

Summing up today’s Sparkle, I believe my life shines in every way. What we forget is that even on bad days, weeks, months, years, there are still sparkles all around, right there in front of us. We can choose to put on sunglasses that dull the sparkles or live in the light.

Two of the brightest sparkles in my life at the moment are the rewarding experience of fostering a rescued beagle for the first time and helping my son prepare to become a marine. Even brighter, finally settling into an editing routine and seeing one particular novel I’ve written really come to life.

I’d like to add a little more sparkle in my life by planning warm weather activities with my husband, completing some spring cleaning, spending time in the garden, submitting my novel to a contest, and making some more quilts for charity.

You tell me now, how you can bring more sparkle into your own life?

Scribbling My Heart Out

Sparkles for the last two days are in today’s post because yesterday was a short meditation session, and at first I didn’t think it would fill a post.  Today I have scribbles to show off, which I’ve cropped and included throughout the post.  You can click on each and enlarge them.

First I’ll share a little something about yesterday’s sparkly meditation session.  I meditate often, so it was a familiar exercise, relaxing and refreshing.  In fact, it was a similar feeling to how I end meditation sessions by filling myself with golden creative energy for inspiration during my day of writing and editing.

When I was done I sat beside our new foster beagle, Mabel, who joined us Thursday.  She was a severely neglected girl, pregnant when she was found.  Unfortunately, all her puppies died.  She also had heart worms and the skin around her nipples is irritated and dry to the point she’s scratched herself raw.  The poor thing.  So I had another sparkly meditation session, and visualized healing sparkles around Mabel while I rubbed her back.  She laid peacefully for nearly a half an hour, and the session was healing for us both.

For today’s sparkle, I got carried away and spent more than five minutes scribbling.  The assignment was to scribble to music.  It was so much fun that after the first song I did another drawing and then another, until I had five scribbles.

I’ve scribbled as a creative activity a few times in the past, but never to music. This way was a lot more fun and just a better experience. Oh yeah, the music I chose, Christmas themed by Harry Connick Jr. It just happened to be the first thing I found on iTunes. I chose to scribble with colored pencil first and them moved to markers. I mixed it up pretty good, scribbling with one or more pencils, used one or both hands, the whole while moving to the music. I really enjoyed creating this last one that reminds me of Harold and the Purple Crayon.

Last but not least, I won a prize yesterday. Not sure the details yet. Will let you know in tomorrow’s post.

I got my first Sparkle assignment today, right after I got out of the shower. Initially I was a little irritated that the assignment was to take a picture of myself. Figured I’d have to go dry my hair and put on a little make up before taking the picture, when what I really wanted to do was eat lunch. Then I remembered the advice given in the introduction. Don’t over think it. Be spontaneous. So I got up. Got the camera and took a picture in front of the mirror closest to the camera.

Now here’s what’s so cool about being spontaneous. I captured much more than an image of myself. The closest mirror was given to us by my sisters five years or so ago and has a beautiful frame that I love. I sometimes look into this mirror and smile before I leave the house, reminding myself to have a lovely time while I’m out. In the background, without knowing, I happened to capture a drawing I did some fifteen years ago. But the most rewarding part of the assignment was captured in the middle, me, just as I am. CHEESE!!

After an hour of trying to reactivate my merchant account with PayPal, I’m signed up to join Sparkles. Damn, it was irritating, but I’m trying to remember that sometimes I’m impatient and obstacles are designed to keep things on the Internet secure.

Now back to the positive… What is Sparkle?

Sparkles is a creative e-course. For 31 days, you’ll go on an adventure designed to awaken your creative spirit and fill you and your days with sparkle. Each day, you’ll receive a quick-to-read, quick-to-do inspiring creative exercise in your inbox. They’ll show you how to get creative, even when you feel like you have no time at all! Learn more…

This fun program caught my attention in the Creative Everyday blog a couple days ago. When I went to the Sparkles website I knew it was for me. If you remember last year, when I was working my way through The Artists Way, I did quite a few creative exercises to get my writing flowing again. It was so successful I’ve been continuing the creative inspiration through various other books and activities.

I’ll share my sparkles here for 31 days, starting in the next few days. Stay tuned, this is going to be FUN!
