Holiday Season Horror Movie Marathon List

0

Posted on by

I’m at it again, this time watching holiday season themed horror movies. I won’t be watching a movie a day thought, instead my intent is to watch as many movies as I can between now and the first of next year. Oh, and my movie selection is not the worst of the worst this time. For this marathon I’ve searched the Internet for lists of Christmas and New Years horror movies and the master list of those I’ve chosen are below. This is not a complete list of all the holiday horror movies. If there’s one you think I should watch that’s missing, please leave a comment.

For some reason a number of these movies are not available on Netflix, especially some of the ones I really want to see. So I’ll only be reviewing maybe half of what is listed every Tuesday here and on the Vamplit Blog just like I did for Halloween.

1 Week to Thanksgiving…Really?

When I went out to get the paper this morning I realized it’s Wednesday when I saw the grocery store sale papers–I’ve been having a hard time remembering what day of the week it is thanks to NaNoWriMo.  Then I realized I’m a little behind on party planning.

This year we’re staying home instead of traveling to Monte Vista, Colorado for Thanksgiving dinner.   Michael’s family in Southern Colorado have fizzled out due to relatives moving or dying.  Now there are only his memories of fifty or more people gathering for the festivities.  Kinda sad, huh?   So our party will include: Michael, my oldest son, and me…oh and two beagles and three cats.

Back to NaNo, I’ve been dreading the whole menu planning and cooking during the contest, and now it’s here.  I kind of over do it every year with dishes we’d bring down south.  Now I have to do the whole meal.  Complaining aside, I love cooking, especially holiday dishes, and my son will gladly help, so don’t feel too sorry for me.   Still, balancing the whipping of potatoes between 3500 new words of Cause for Redemption is the next challenge I’m ready to take on.

How about you?  What are you doing for Thanksgiving?  What are your family traditions?  What are your favorite dishes?

I'm 45 Today

Happy birthday to me!
Yeah, I’m 45 today.  WOW…45.

Best birthday present I got so far today came to me while doing a P90X upper body work out this morning.  Physically I don’t feel any different than I did twenty years ago, and I have greater endurance.  Of course I have to sneak in the gluten free and mostly caesin free diet over the last couple years has helped decrease aches and pains tremendously.  Smile and frown lines are a little deeper, but I’ve earned ‘em along with a few more gray hairs.

Still, this isn’t a completely happy day.  What gets to me every year is the progress I’ve made as a fiction writer.   It’s hitting me especially hard this year.  Maybe that’s why I’ve been in such a foul mood the past month or two.  You’d think I’d be working harder for success, but I’m still fighting the urge to quit.

Oops…it’s my birthday.  Keep it positive!

Now that I’m a year older, maybe a nap would help.

Monday's Whine: A Woman and a Writer

Sorry for posting so late today. I’ve gotten too involved, preparing for next week’s post on organizing. Oops! Maybe I should have done that this week.

Just as a reminder, I’ve decided to use Monday as a whining day, but in a more constructive way. Basically, last week I posted, Started 2010 with My Head Spinning, and whined that I just can’t seem to “get with it” this year. As a way to help myself, “get with it,” I’m blogging about things I’m doing to leave the whining behind.

My journey begins with reminding myself that I’m not just a writer and desperate housewife. Well, not exactly desperate, but the other half of my day is spent as a housewife/domestic goddess and mother to my 15 year old, who is working on completing his high school diploma, online at home. Yeah, it’s me and him, together all day, how I’d wished it had been when he was preschool age. Let me tell ya, being a stay at home mom for a teenager who’s home all day is less a walk in the park, not that it wouldn’t have been easy when he and his older bother were young. It is a topic for another post though.

Every year, the holidays get a little too domestic for me, because I absolutely love decorating and cooking and baking and playing hostess. And by the end of it all, I’m a total zombie. As of last week, I realized I’m having a hard time pulling out of my zombie state. So, when it came time to choose an area of my life that needed a pick me up, the choice was easy. I added woman back into the mix.

I invited a friend over for lunch, who also happens to be a Mary Kay lady, and we played with makeup. How much fun was that!! She gave me gobs of samples that I tried all week long. I have to admit, I had gotten a little lazy about making myself beautiful every day. What a difference in feeling, going through each day looking your best. So THANKS to Kristin Henning for reminding me to put some effort back into appearance.

Also gave myself a pedicure rather than going out for one. There’s something really rewarding about doing it yourself. I always feel I do a better job anyways. Oops, there’s that perfectionist in me, rearing its ugly head.

Best of all, I planned a sexy night in with Michael. I won’t fill you in on the details, but I will say it more than made up for all the $$$ spent on Mary Kay cosmetics. ;-)

All in all, it was a great week of reminding myself that fulfilling womanly desires can easily wipe away the pressures of writing.
