This week’s insanity brought to you by Wendy Howard

Happy Monday morning. Just a few quick items this week. Very exciting for me, the new book cover for The Courier is complete and here it is. Couple more weeks it’ll be available again.

Tim’s book, The Pumpkin Seed will be featured in July over at The Dark Book Club.

We’d like to invite in a few more bloggers to join us. If you’re interested, contact us. In particular we’re looking for creative people, which means you don’t have to be a writer.

This week over at Dark Media City:

  • It’s zombie month over at Horror Chat on DarkMedia City.
  • This month’s theme for Friday Frights continues with Science Fiction, the prompt being Apocalypse.
  • Over at The Dark Book Club we’re finishing up our June reads.

HAVE A GREAT WEEK!!

I’ve gotten away from writing in this blog again, primarily because I’ve been busy setting up the Visionary Press cooperative. Am back though and trying to do some regular posts. Even managed to get a Friday Fright out last week.

Anyways, we’ve got a membership drive going on over at Visionary Press. If you’re interested in community publishing, drop by the website and learn more.

I’ve got a new book cover in the works for The Courier and am hoping to re-release in a couple weeks.

Tim’s story, Invitation was published in Dark Media Magazine a couple weeks ago.

This week over at Dark Media City:

  • It’s zombie month over at Horror Chat on DarkMedia City.
  • This month’s theme for Friday Frights continues with Science Fiction, the prompt being steampunk.
  • Over at The Dark Book Club we started reading the following new books.

This week’s insanity brought to you by Wendy

I got away from our Monday posts because a lot of insanity happened over the past couple months. That’s all coming to an end and new and exciting things are happening. In my case I had to take a few steps back to be able to leap forward, so I’m certainly not sitting around pouting, that’s for sure.

Unfortunately, I had to unpublish The Courier, which is why you no longer see it on this blog. I’m starting a new cooperative publishing company, Visionary Press, with a few respected authors and artists, and The Courier will re-release later this year. Stay tuned. More on Visionary Press next week.

I’ve started doing wine reviews on Wednesday if you haven’t dropped by to read for awhile. Wine is a passion of both mine and my hubby’s, so I’m having a blast writing these reviews. Check ‘em out so far. Tim knows whiskey and I’m trying to get him to writer reviews. Cross your fingers.

This week’s Horror Chat on Twitter and Dark Media City is about David Lynch so everyone will have to endure my fixation with Eraserhead and Dune. In June, we start a series of discussions on zombies, YIPPEE, always a popular topic.

June also starts a month of Science Fiction for Friday Frights. This week we will release stories about aliens. We have been all moved into Dark Media City for the last couple weeks too. Now we vote weekly for the stories and our favorite is published in Dark Media Magazine.

The Dark Book Club, also on Dark Media City is now run by Visionary Press and led by Blaze McRob and myself. The club is really taking off and we’ve nearly doubled the members. Drop by and join or suggest your book.

Last week was stressful for most of us, but I won’t go into the details. When bizarre things happen, I’d prefer to thank God for the stability and wonderful people in my life. As far as the not so nice things, they force pause and reassessment of direction, which is also a good thing. That’s where I’ve been for the past few weeks.

All in all, there’s not much happening.

Again, don’t forget that Tim’s book is featured as one of this month’s reads in The Dark Book Club on Dark Media City.

There were good things that happened too including R.J. progressing on our secret publishing project. I also created some social media sites that we’re not really using yet, but you can follow/like us at @pickAread and our facebook page. I’ve decided to let the creation of this site take up A LOT of my time over the next few weeks, so this is where some of my direction is changing.

One more thing from me. I returned to my critique group last week and realized how much I missed everyone and joining in on the reading/critiquing. I brought a short story which brought on another revelation. I want to concentrate on the short stuff for awhile. So this week I’m focusing on finishing up all the short stories in my queue, especially the #FridayFlash. My goal is to release one a day although some are completion parts to stories partially released. Today’s story is a vampire tale for last week’s #FridayFlash, so stay tuned for its release this evening.

And speaking of #FridayFlash, it’s still Reader’s Choice, and this week’s #horrorchat on Twitter and Dark Media City is about Clive Barker.

Sorry I missed last week’s status. I’ve gotten myself really behind on my writing and needed to spend some time editing.

So what’s up?

We started a couple new features, the first being periodic drawings for horror stuff. To kick it off, we are helping to promote Jeff Freeman’s Island of the Cannibal Death Gods fundraiser. From the movie’s website, “Starting Monday, March 12th and going thru Saturday March 17th… All profits from the sale of “Island of the Cannibal Death Gods” through Distrify, will be donated equally to “Scares That Care” and the “Animal Rescue Mission.” Just click one of the links above to download or rent and please share with your friends to help raise money for these two great causes.” We are giving away 3 copies of the film. Off in the right column you’ll find how to enter. You get one chance to win for each entry, so follow us and get those links to cool horror stuff added for Friday’s horror hop.

Our second new feature, “the Minor Insanity Horror Hop, is a new weekly link sharing event every Thursday and Friday to the dark side of media. Share as many links as you like to Twitter accounts, facebook pages, websites, blog posts, book deals, movie reviews, free games, etc. Enter as many links as you like. Enter the same social media accounts weekly as well. Then visit the links and support the contributors by following, liking, commenting, downloading, etc.” It’s open to everyone so I hope you’ll join us.

In the Vamplit Blog it’s Read an eBook Week all month long. This month Vamplit is giving away Vamplit merchandise and ebooks in drawings and competitions as part of their commitment to ebooks. Go to the blog for more details.

Don’t forget that Tim’s book is featured as one of this month’s reads in The Dark Book Club on Dark Media City. I got my copy last week and started reading it over the weekend. Tim’s writing is fabulous and I’m his biggest fan, so I hope you’ll join us.

Got my World Book Night book selection and pick up location. I’m giving away Wintergirls, which was my third giveaway choice and I haven’t read it yet but did pick up a copy. The event is April 23rd and have plenty of time to read it before venturing out to give it away. I’ll also post a review here before then. Actually glad I didn’t get my first choice, which was Hunger Games. Sorry to say the book was okay, but I have no interest in reading any of the other books in the series or even seeing the movie after reading it.

Our blog has been added to Networked Blogs. Follow us using the link in the lower left corner.

I may volunteer for the Run for Your Lives 5K obstacle course zombie race. I heard about it last year, but don’t remember it being in Denver. Who knows, maybe it was different event. Still it looks like loads of fun but I’m not sure if I want to run or do something else.

This week’s #horrorchat on Twitter and Dark Media City is about H.P. Lovecraft and we’re still writing readers choice for #fridayflash.

HAVE A GREAT WEEK!!
